A Day on the Inchiyaki

Today, I boated yet another solid grade III stretch.  Boating with me, were Dan and Mom.  As we drove towards the river, my anticipation slowly grew.  I knew that Dan was taking me to the Inchiyaki River on a grade III section.  I was so excited, I could hardly wait!

Once the day started, I felt once again the amazing feeling of class III water.  I was astounded at the volume and size of what I was doing, but trusted myself and kicked butt!  It felt like someone else, with limitless power, was controlling me.  It was a sick and crazy experience, and I loved it!  I flipped three times in rapids, and each time I rolled back up.  Once, I flipped when I was surfing a wave, and I had success rolling at that time also!

During the last and more easy section, rain pounded down on the river.  Whenever it rains, my comfort zone drops, and this happened today.  For me, sun takes away a large percentage of perceived fear, meaning it helps me realize that anything I do, I will survive.   When it begins to rain, more fear comes to me replacing my confidence and happiness with stress.  I was a little scared during the rain and was happy to see the bridge at the take out.

Today was really fun!  I loved kayaking bigger water, but was a little scared when the rain began.  This was my last day of boating in Ecuador, and possibly of the trip.  We leave Tena in three days for another jungle lodge and I need to get some school work done before our departure.   It is a little sad and disappointing to be done with kayaking, but I could not have asked for a more amazing time paddling in Ecuador.
